California workers compensation medical billing is complicated because the law requires that a worker who is injured on the job receive treatment for their injuries and illnesses. This is where the medical billing process comes in. It's the only way to ensure that workers are properly treated and paid for their medical expenses, which can be expensive.

The law requires that employers provide reasonable care to employees who are injured at work. They must also pay for reasonable medical treatment of these injuries, as well as any long-term care they may need later on. When an employee is injured at work, there will be two types of bills:

The California workers compensation system was created to protect injured workers from losing their jobs or having their wages withheld if they are unable to return to work after an injury or illness. It also provides benefits that allow them to continue working if they are unable to perform their duties due to medical reasons.

The system is designed so that employers and employees can file claims with the appropriate insurance company, who will handle all aspects of the claim and make sure that the injured worker receives all benefits needed under California law.

A third-party liability claim bill - this covers any damages caused by someone other than your client during an accident or incident.

California workers comp insurers are required to reimburse medical providers for their services, but they often don’t. When they don't, sometimes the only way to recover payment is through a lawsuit against the insurer. This can be very expensive and time-consuming, so it is important that you need expert collectors/lawyer in order to maximize your chances of success and minimize the amount of money you spend on legal fees. A good lien negotiator (Collector) will know what steps to take to protect your rights as the medical provider, as well as how best to structure your case so that it is likely to win.

The first step in recovering payments from California workers comp insurers is to file lien against them in WCAB. This should be done within 18 months from the last date of treatment; otherwise, you may have missed your opportunity for legal action.

Other steps to keep in mind before treating the injured workers.

1.      Verify the case viability.

2.      Verify insurance, case and MPN status.

3.      Ensure you always request authorization for any treatment outside regular office visits.

4.      File timely SBR’s on partial paid bills and if required file for IBR.

5.      File lien with WCAB if insurance didn’t pay even after all the attempts within 18 months of last service date.

6.      Fight the case till what is owed is recovered.
